So in addition to ensuring the continuation of the human species, the expanded belly of the pregnant woman also serves as a convenient receptacle for crumbs and dripped ice cream, preventing the soiling of one's shoes and/or pants. In addition, whilst in a seat position, it provides the user with a convenient shelf for the storage of objects such as cereal bowls (see image), coffee mugs and beer bottles.
If this is not intelligent design, I know not what it would be.
